Study Claims That People Who Post About The Gym And Fitness On Facebook Are Actually Narcissists

Of course they are.

Yes, Dave, well in - you've checked in at the gym. But can you eat ten chicken nuggets, a 12 inch pizza, chicken wings, and chips, while watching Netflix and drinking beer? No, you can't, because your diet plan says otherwise.

A study has now claimed that those who post their fitness regimes on Facebook are actually narcissists - which really didn't need any research.

Unwillingly, we'll see posts about gains, statuses about leg day, pictures of a chest press, and a selfie in the gym mirror near enough everyday. They all contribute to the exact reason the unfriend option was created.

A team of psychologists at Brunel University in London found that, from 555 subjects, their motives for posting gym related stuff was to draw attention to their own attributes.

Amid studying people's pursuit for attention, the research looked at extroversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness, self-esteem, and narcissism.

"Although [the] results suggest that narcissists' bragging pays off because they receive more likes and comments to their status updates, it could be that their Facebook friends politely offer support while secretly disliking such egotistical displays," Dr Tara Marshal said.

Not that we didn't know it anyway, but that guy who always posts pictures of dumbbells captioned 'back at it', is doing it for nothing more than a like.

The quest for validation is not actually in vain, though. The updates that come from the beefy big bollocks actually receive greater numbers of likes and comments, meaning their boasting tendencies are reinforced by the attention they crave. I imagine there's a few people out there who actually do nothing in the gym, and just go for the likes.

Still, if someone posts a picture of their burger, they're getting a like from me. Keep on clanging your weights, pal, I'm not arsed.
