A lad who was dubbed 'tree man' due to the warts all over his hands has been cured.

He went through 16 operations, but is now able to hold his daughter properly for the first time.

Abul Bajandar suffered from a genetic condition called epidermodysplasia verruciformis. It's extremely rare but causes large warts to appear which look as though they could be made out of wood.

His wife and daughter have been living with him at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he has been receiving free medical treatment.

His story attracted the attention of doctors who wanted to help him. He wasn't always affected by the warts, and actually met his wife before they became a problem.

It looks like he'll now have to have two more 'minor' surgeries to complete his treatment, but he is able to hold his daughter. Speaking to AFP news agency, he said: "I never thought I would ever be able to hold my kid with my hands,

"Now I feel so much better. I can hold my daughter in my lap and play with her. I can't wait to go back home."

Doctors say that if the warts don't grow back, he'll be the first person to ever recover from the disease. Plastic surgery coordinator Samanta Lal Sen told the Independent: "Bajandar's cure was a remarkable milestone in the history of medical science."
