An Indian student has paid off his entire student debts while still at university by earning £80,000 in poker winnings.

Anmol Srivats, a maths student, began playing online poker four years ago before building up the nerve to to out into real-life tournaments while studying at St Andrews in Scotland.

Anmol, 22, has been earning an average of £20,000 per year at uni whilst his mates struggle to serve themselves a plate of beans on toast. Such is the level of his game that Anmol has even bagged himself single pots worth £6,000 during his poker ventures.

Starting out at the age of 15 on a £8 buy in, Anmol went on to win £240 in an online tournament. It would be the beginning of an incredibly lucrative poker career.

"I cover my living expenses each year, but I know it's possible to lose money very quickly, and I don't spend lots of money on flashy things," he said.

"It's about making my life a little better - I sometimes eat at restaurants instead of eating halls food, or take taxis instead of walking.

"I once won £5,700 in one hand, when I had a pair of aces and went all in with two other plays.

"I also won £16,000 in an online tournament as well.

"My poker benefits my maths rather than the other way round, I think the same skills that make me good at poker make me good at maths."

Anmol says he plans to work as a trader after graduation, drawing similarities between it and poker. "It's a natural transition," he says.

If you're reading, Anmol, and let's face it you probably are. Gizza tenner?
