You All Need To Stop Ordering Ice In Your Drinks Immediately

You All Need To Stop Ordering Ice In Your Drinks Immediately

This is gross.

The ice in your delicious vodka and lemonade/gin & tonic/whisky and coke could be home to a serious number of bacteria.

When the weather is warm (hardly ever) a nice, ice cold, alcoholic beverage is just what you need. However, as this picture shows, ice machines can be pretty filthy places.

So, does this mean that when I'm hungover it's nothing to do with the 11 gin and tonics? I've got ice poisoning?

And, if you're thinking this is just one example of a fucking filthy restaurant, then I'm sorry to disappoint you but there was a whole Reddit thread with people who work in bars, pubs and restaurants agreeing that the ice machine is way down on the list when it comes to cleaning duties.

I worked in a restaurant for about four years and I only saw the ice machine get cleaned twice and the ice wells were cleaned about every three months or so. None of us took ice in our drinks.

If all this anecdotal evidence isn't good enough for you, then the Mirror reports that a 2013 study found that ice in six out of 10 restaurants contained more bacteria than toilet water.

I think we should all just be on the safe side and switch to pints...
