McDonald's Employees Reveal The Best Hacks For Saving Money And Getting The Best Food

At long last.

Uusually when you're in McDonald's, it's a form of shortcut.

You might be pissed, you might on a dash through town during the day and in need of a pit stop. No-one is ever planning a Maccies venture days in advance.

So it never crosses our mind to indulge normal mannerly convention and treat the workers or anything inside our local branches, as if it's a fancy restaurant.

Turns out we're wrong to act the way we do.

Thanks to a interesting Quora conversation, some employees of the burger chain have revealed what it takes to get the best out of your trip to McDonald's.

BREAKFAST

When it comes to breakfast, Matt Decuir says "Go between 10.30 and 11. They're transitioning from breakfast to lunch, and you can get a little of both. It's like brunch for your stomach."

GETTING PENG FRIES

Hate cardboard chips in your Maccies order? Simple: ask for them without salt.

Everybody's seen the zealous bastards coating the entire chip pan in spades of salt so it makes sense that if someone were to request otherwise, would be treated to a top-secret, more homely batch of fries.

It's not all a walk in the park though, with Chuck Chan warning: "The fry person will need to wipe down the station, the fry scoop, and clear the area for the new batch to keep salt from contaminating the new batch. The fry person might not even fill up your container as full due to this fuss.

"And if any fries fall out of the bag/container, they wont put more in because the rest of the fries may have already been salted."

GETTING PENG BURGERS

Same thing applies, but this time, don't ask for a certain ingredient.

"Always ask for your burger without some ingredient. Like a Quarter Pounder with no pickles," Ted Pettiy revealed.

"They will write this on a small slip of paper, put it on the tray under the heat lamps and say 'Grill up!' to the cooks.

"They will look at it and make you one right then and there. When it's done, the cook will say 'Grill Up!' and the counter person will retrieve your fresh Quarter Pounder.

"The difference in taste between a burger that's sitting for who knows how long and one right off the grill is phenomenal."

SAVING MONEY

This ones a bit pathetic, given that Maccies isn't exactly extortionate but hey-ho.

"When you buy a hot drink, you can ask for a free refill once.

"Suppose if you want to buy a promotional hot drink which costs more than £2, then just buy any hot drink (hot chocolate, latte, white coffee) which ever is the cheapest, drink it and then ask them for refill, they will ask you what drink you want, then just say the name of the promotional drink."

Watch out for hash browns too.

"When you buy a breakfast meal, if you buy extra hash brown, there is an option on the till machine called 'Uplift Hash Brown', we are guided to add extra hash brown which costs 70 - 80 pence each.

"But ethically we should press Uplift Hash Brown which costs 30 pence. So if you are aware, you can ask them that you have bought a meal so you should get extra hash brown for 30 pence."

GETTING 'REAL EGGS'

"If you want real eggs on your breakfast sandwiches instead of the liquid stuff, you can put a round egg onto any breakfast sandwich.

"Just ask for a 'round egg' on it (same egg they use on McMuffins)."

REQUESTING A RECEIPT

This one's more... Bond. If you ask for a receipt, employees may think you're a secret shopper, thus supplying you with the best possible service and food quality.

Though apparently just being nice is enough to get you in their good books.

"Be kind! I promise you, the teenager (such as myself) behind the counter will appreciate you more and you might just make their day at a crummy fast food job that much better.

"You're also much more likely to get better food quality and save a few cents here and there if we like you."
