The Simpsons is an absolute classic, over the last three decades it's provided us with hundreds of hilarious moments and has also been the source of some classic GIFs and memes.
There's one particular GIF that's so widely used it has to be a firm favourite among social media users - you know the one: Homer Simpson walking backwards into a hedge awkwardly?

Well, it turns out even The Simpsons uses that GIF to highlight a sufficiently awkward situation. Well meta.
On The Simpsons official Twitter page a post went up with the comment: "Even Homer uses that GIF. #TheSimpsons."
Along with it, they posted a GIF of Homer texting his daughter, Lisa, saying he can't find his phone. Lisa responds by pointing out the fact he's texting her using his phone. We've all been there, guys.

And that's the very moment Homer replies with that GIF - which left fans of the show losing their shit.
One person tweeted: "OMG life imitating art imitating life!"
Another said: "And this just one reason why @TheSimpsons will always be my favourite show EVER."

"Jokes like this are one of the rewards of being an ancient, ancient TV show," a third posted.
One fan decided to question the details of the long-running sitcom, asking how Homer could possibly use the GIF at all.
Considering it's a 30-year-old fictional cartoon in which the main character has been in so many accidents that he probably should be dead, it maybe wasn't the question of priority on the minds of those who control the show's social media page - but valid point nonetheless.

Either way it shows that even after 30 years The Simpsons still has the ability to move with the times, adapt and grow.
The GIF itself links back to a time when the show was at its peak of television viewing - it comes from the episode 'Homer Loves Flanders' from 1994 - yep, 25 years ago...feel old yet?
The fact that this episode, and moments from it, still resonates with people in 2019 is a true testament to the everlasting love audiences have for The Simpsons.
Although, some fans weren't feeling the meta-joke throwback saying the show has lost some of its comedic value since the days of 'Homer Loves Flanders'.
