More young people are watching Planet Earth II than The X Factor and it's made the world's loveliest man, Sir David Attenborough, very happy. That in turn makes me do a little fist pump to celebrate.

Sir David modestly credits the improvement in technology with his show's success as opposed to the real reason, which is his smooth as fuck voiceovers.

Speaking to the Radio Times, he said: "I'm told that we are attracting a larger than normal number of younger viewers [16-35] and apparently the music of Hans Zimmer in particular is striking a chord.

"That pleases me enormously." And me, David.

David, who is sort of like the UK's grandad, also took the chance to chat about why the programme is so important for younger viewers.

He said: "It is our environmental legacy that the younger generation of today will inherit; we need them to become the environmental champions of the future. That's why television of this type is so important."

The BBC told The Times that the second episode had the highest ratings with young viewers. It totalled at 1.8million compared to The X Factor's 1.4million.

Planet Earth II took almost four years to make and travelled to 40 countries to get the end product, whereas The X Factor travels to 23 cities and still ended up with Honey G making it to the live shows.
