Last week, everybody's attention was brought to Spencer Morrill, a man who'd been viciously catfished into thinking he'd been dating Katy Perry for six years.

Of course, he'd never actually met the 'pop star', he'd just been speaking to her online. But he was convinced that he had the Teenage Dream singer in the palm of his hand; it's just that she didn't fancy meeting him face-to-face.

Spencer believed that Katy had online cheated on both Russel Brand and Orlando Bloom in the last six years and, you know what, good on him, aim for the stars.

The 31-year-old singer has weighed in on the situation, expressing her sympathy for poor old Spencer.

"You know, like, my heart goes out to him actually, because anybody that's been fooled like that or just, you know, people have dreams, and people live in different parts of world where not everything is always so accessible," Katy told The Morning Mash Up. "I felt bad for him, and so I didn't really like to indulge in that.

"Someone sent me a link and I didn't actually read through it because I just think it's really unfortunate and very sad."

Despite the fact that Harriet, the girl who pretended to be Katy, admitted to Spencer that she was catfishing him, he still insisted that he's still seeing Katy. To be fair, I'd insist I was dating Katy Perry, even if I wasn't. Don't let your dreams be dreams.

Catfish airs at 8pm every Thursday on MTV in the UK.
