Joe Pesci - aka Harry Lyme, one of half of Home Alone's Wet Bandits - appears in a hilarious new advert, in which he can be seen casting an eye over a recent commercial featuring Macaulay Culkin, his co-star in the 1990 movie and its 1992 sequel.

The new advert for Google Assistant shows Pesci sat with some pals watching Culkin's effort, which saw the 38-year-old recreating some of the movie's most famous scenes.

Pointing out the obvious to his friends, Pesci explains: "He's home alone... you know, the name of the movie is Home Alone. Except he's big now..."

He then tells his gathered friends: "OK, here's my big part," before his line 'better get out of here before somebody sees us' can be heard.

His mates erupt into applause, while Pesci proudly says: "I nailed it."

Sharing the ad from his personal account, Culkin wrote: "I love this! But how come Pesci didn't have to get into costume?!"

Culkin's advert appeared just before Christmas - perfect timing given that Home Alone is officially one of the best festive flicks of all time.

In the clip, he was a grown-up Kevin McAllister who was left home alone, but this time he had Google Assistant to help him do things such as ordering a pizza, setting up reminders to buy aftershave and checking out his calendar.

Sharing the video from his Twitter account, Culkin posted: "Have you ever wondered what Kevin McCallister is like as an adult? Me neither. But just in case you're curious you should totally watch this."

Alongside the ad, Google released a behind-the-scenes clip titled 'The Making of Home Alone Again with the Google Assistant', which featured a chat with the former child star as well as bloopers and outtakes.

Talking about filming the ad, Culkin said: "It was interesting going back and doing a lot of stuff. They did a very good job on the set decoration and all the props and all the shots were really spot on."

Fans were delighted to see the actor back on our screens and looking so well, with one posting: "Healthy looking Macauley Culkin is the reason for the season."

A second added: "Wow. Macauley Culkin looks healthy in Google holiday ad."
