Soon, your mobile phone might stop working once you're in a moving car. Don't flap though, this is all to make people more safe when they're on the road.

How many of you have checked Facebook, Twitter, texts or emails while at the wheel? Turns out lot as 17,500 people were taken to court last year.

The Department for Transport (DfT) is reportedly looking into the tech which would block your phone's ability to connect to the Internet or to make/receive calls and texts. According to the Independent, ministers are meeting up with car companies to see how this could be implemented soon.

Campaigners want to make using your phone at the wheel socially unacceptable. Victims' Commissioner Baroness Newlove said: "It is time to make using a mobile phone while driving just as unacceptable as not wearing a seat belt or drink-driving.

"We need better education and hard hitting messages to ensure the next generation know what could happen."

Phone makers have been asked to look into a 'drive mode' which would be similar to the 'flight mode' that we all know and love. Well, briefly switching it on and off usually fixes your Internet issues - right?

Be aware though, if you're caught using your phone behind the wheel you could face an automatic ban (if you're a new driver), a fine of £200 and six penalty points. If your actions result in the death of someone else, you can be jailed for life.

Side note: I really hope if this technology does come in that it won't affect passengers. Imagine being on a bus and having no Facebook to distract you?!
