Man Loses 10 Stone In 15 Weeks In A Journey To Save His Life

A man who was 'eating himself to death' has made amazing progress in losing weight, shedding 10 stone (63kg) in less than four months.

Back in October, Darren McClintock's personal trainer had him barred from all his favourite takeaways in a bid to battle the obesity that was slowly killing him.

After only a week on his diet and exercise regime, PT Mike Hind had helped Darren - aka 'Dibsy' - shed a stone. Amazingly, 15 weeks after starting on his journey, he has now dropped a staggering 10st.

Twenty-eight-year-old Dibsy used to weigh the same as two baby elephants, but with the help of Mike, he's now able to do things he was once physically unable to - such as tie his own laces or put a seatbelt around himself.

Dibsy said: "My life has turned around within the last 15 weeks. I can actually go out and about and do things that normal people can do but take for granted.

"My body aches but I feel so much better because I'm eating properly and working out every day.

"Every aspect of my life has improved for the better. Obviously, I'm physically fitter but I'm much happier as well, I used to be depressed and sad."

He's now able to go to the cinema, he's ridden a bike and even booked his first holiday in a decade.

After being giving the terrifying ultimatum that he would die if he didn't diet, Mike paid a visit to every single one of Dibsy's favourite fast food shops and had him banned.

Of course, that doesn't mean he isn't allowed a treat once in a while - but Dibsy said he's lost interest in that.

He explained: "It was my birthday in December, and I treated myself to fish and chips but I ate half and threw it away. I don't even like it anymore.

However, it's not been an easy journey and he has come up against tough days where he's wanted to quit.

He added: "Some days I've woken up and wanted to pack it in but somehow I've kept going."

Dibsy's progress has been monitored and supported by his PT Mike, who put him on a strict exercise regime and diet that included two workouts every single day - with no letting up at Christmas or on his birthday.

The 35-year-old trainer put Dibsy on a high-protein diet, restricting him to 3,000 calories a day. Over the past 15 weeks he's managed to cut around one million calories from his client's diet.

Mike said: "Dibsy has been absolutely incredible, I'm so proud of the work he's done and the progress he has made.

"He knew it was going to be hard work, but he's got his head down and got on with it. The way I see it, this was a case of life or death.

"If Dibsy hadn't made a change in his life then it could have been the end for him.

"This is just the beginning; Dibsy is going to go on and live a healthy life."

The next step is for Dibsy to undergo a procedure called cardioversion that attempts to bring his abnormally fast heart rate down to a normal rhythm.

By the end of 2019 he hopes to have reached 20 stone.

You can do it, mate!
