People went wild when ALDI announced it was pairing alcohol with everyone's beloved advent calendar. One of the best things about the lead up to Christmas was getting to have a small chocolate snack every day. But the discount supermarket upped the stakes when news broke that it would release a calendar containing small bottles of wine behind every window.
The UK arm of the juggernaut said it would sell the thirst-quenching product for just £50 (AUD$ 84) and there were plenty of Australians wondering if it was going to be much more expensive due to alcohol taxes.
ALDI Australia got everyone excited that there would be a chance it would be on the shelves before December, tweeting: "We'll let the team know you'd love to see the Wine Advent Calendar available in our stores."
You'd think, as well, considering we're a part of the British Commonwealth that the chain would surely be rolling it out to us. But unfortunately, that's not the case.

An ALDI spokesperson has told News Corp: "ALDI operates in a number of countries, in which varying products are sold in each market. At this stage, the wine advent calendar will not be available in Australian ALDI stores."
Unsurprisingly, the decision hasn't gone down well with some.
One person wrote on ALDI Australia's Facebook page to say: "This is very disappointing news and I know just like myself all my friends (which I have been flapping my lips about to all of them about this calendar) will be disappointed with the news.
"For once it was nice to see an Advent Calendar us adults could enjoy during the festive season. I hope you, ALDI Australia change your mind and decide to sell this product come Christmas."
Another added: "I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am that your wine advent calendar will not be sold in Australia. Looks like I'm not the only one either so perhaps you should have a rethink and give your customers what they want!"
Not to rub salt in the wound, but if you were wondering exactly what wine would be included in the product, it's a triple whammy of red, white, sparkling and rosé. According to Drinks Business, it will cater to all tastes and feature a selection of drops from France, Italy and Spain. Each bottle holds 200ml, which is a perfect tipple during a hot summer's day.
Looks like Christmas has already been ruined.
