Celebrate 'World Gin Day' With One Of The Best In The World For Under £10

It was placed above some huge brands and was presented with a gold-medal award. So what better way to celebrate World Gin Day?

Gin. Just that one word is enough to cheer up anyone's Saturday evening, isn't it? Are we right, we know we are.

So that's why we're so god damn happy that this weekend marks World Gin Day's 10th anniversary. You may be asking 'shouldn't Monday be a Bank Holiday or something' and we're working on it but for now get yourself a fishbowl glass and drink away.

Regardless of whether you're going out or staying put with Gordon, Hendrick or Sipsmith, it might be time to put in a little consideration for our guy, Oliver.

By Oliver we mean Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin (wasn't it obvious?)

The gin has been named as one of the best in the world at a prestigious international spirits competition and it's sold in Aldi - for less than a tenner might we add.

So forget all about the halloumi burger slices, pizza ovens and £70 ($93) bouncy castles because this is better. It is alcohol after all.

The Aldi God's have done it again and we couldn't be happier.

The £9.99 ($13.40) bottle of heaven was handed a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirits Challenge (IWSC) ahead of a bottle that costs four times as much.

So it's only right to celebrate the magical day by going and getting a bottle (or 15) of this cheap and cheerful beauty?

In fact, it's not just gin which Aldi does so well - it managed to pick up 20 medals at the competition for its fine range of spirits. It also won Supermarket Own Brand Spirits Range Of The Year at the International Spirits Challenge.

A spokesperson from the International Spirits Challenge told the MailOnline: "The display of awards achieved by Aldi this year at the International Spirits Challenge was fantastic.

"They consistently showcased high quality products in the blind tastings, which demonstrates that you don't have to compromise on price to enjoy great tasting drinks." Prayers answered.

Here's a fun fact to tell your mates (over a gin later) during the plague years, doctors wore masks filled with juniper berries as they thought the plague was spread by bad odours. So, does this mean juniper berries are practically medication?

Which in turn would mean juniper berries in gin would be healing? That would explain so much. Maybe we could start to get it on prescription (too far?)

If this isn't a good enough reason to take your pajamas off and get down to Aldi, we don't know what is. In fact, bollocks to it - keep the jim jams on. No one will notice, they'll all be grabbing a bottle too.
