It can reportedly feed up to 24 people and will only set you back £12.

Virtually every British kid's birthday was filled with laughter, balloons (at least once) and a good ole Colin the Caterpillar.

For those uninitiated in the Colin world, it's a log of chocolate sponge cake with a mildly terrifying grin on its face.

While it's tough to beat the birthday staple from Marks and Spencer, rival Asda has launched its own version of the delicious cake and it's massive.

Named Colossal Clyde, this dessert feeds up to 24 people, according to the Sun, and measures 45 centimetres. Not bad, not bad at all Asda.

M&S has previously unveiled a larger Colin for special events, but that will set you back a whopping £40. This monster Asda version is only £12. Yeah, you could invite your 23 mates to eat it with you, or you could sit back, switch on Game of Thrones and plough through it in one sitting.

Sarah Burns, Asda's bakery expert said: "As well as being a fun novelty cake, Colossal Clyde is great value for money for our customers.

"There has been an increasing demand for supersized and extraordinary products recently and we're happy to be at the forefront of quirky thinking and show stopping products that our customers love."

The large dessert will be available from April 1.

That date is notoriously known for pranks and devilish behaviour, so we hope Asda isn't taking the piss with this one.

But if you want to stick to the Colin family, we don't blame you, it's a pretty good bunch. A few years ago, M&S decided to give Colin a wife, Connie, and even a couple of kids.

M&S

Connie is a milk chocolate-coated chocolate sponge roll, but she's filled with strawberry buttercream and decorated with pink milk chocolate beans, icing heart decorations and a white chocolate face. Basically, Colin did pretty well for himself, as she's a bit of a beaut.

Just like their dad, the mini Colins are chocolate-covered sponge rolls filled with some of that tasty chocolate buttercream, and are also topped with those snazzy multi-coloured chocolate beans.

You can normally find packs of five in stores for about £2, but if you hop online you can also get a mega-pack of no less than 25 mini Colin the Caterpillars - quite the brood, eh? -for £12.

The best thing about them? You don't need to pretend it's a birthday or any other special occasion to eat them. Winner.
