Six-Year-Old Boy Who Dreams Of Being A Guard Gets Response From The Queen

When we were growing up, how many of us fancied being Michael Schumacher? David Beckham? Stone Cold Steve Austin?

Well six-year-old George Mearing from Basingstoke has other ideas. He wants to be a Queen's Guard.

The young lad loves dressing up with his big fur hat, complete with the red jacket and a plastic sword.

In fact, he wanted the job so badly, that he wrote to 'Your Majesty the Queen' and told her his plans for the future.

His love-affair with being a guard started last year when he watched the Trooping of the Colour (the big display of soldiers) for the Queen's 90th birthday.

The note said: "I have been learning about you, your family, and your soldiers... I like dressing up as a soldier.

"It would make me very happy to have a letter from you."

George included pictures of him dressing up in his uniform.

Our Majesty, being as down-to-earth as she is, replied... sort of.

Obviously, the Queen is a little too busy to reply to every letter she receives but she had seen George's letter and replied via her Lady-in-Waiting (the Queen's secretary, basically).

"Her Majesty was glad to learn that you enjoyed your visit to Windsor Castle, and you are interested in the Guards," the response reads.

"Although the Queen is unable to reply personally to the hundreds of letters she receives every day, Her Majesty was pleased to hear from you," it continues.

The reply also contained leaflets of the guards as well as an apology for the slow response.

It seems that nobody was expecting a reply, least of all George.

"I saw the envelope and the paper and immediately knew who it was from," said his mum, Helen.

"I left it there for him to find and his face lit up when he saw," she added.

George's next goal is to meet some of the royal family.

If he does grow up to be a guard, one (royal language, of course) can only hope that he doesn't do what one of the Queen's men did a few years ago.

Her Maj, known for her late night strolls around the palace gardens, was almost shot by her guard.

He supposedly cried: "Bloody hell, Your Majesty. I nearly shot you," to which she replied: "That's quite all right."

"Next time I'll ring through beforehand so you don't have to shoot me."

The Queen literally does not give a flying fuck.
